Submitted UPCs must pass through several hoops before being finalized in Circana's database and included in your data.
If acceptable package images have been submitted, Circana is expected to code and establish a submitted item in their database approximately 60-90 days after the date it's submitted. If new items are submitted before they've shipped out, they can be expected to show up in your data 60-90 days after their first retail scans, as long as they're being scanned at retailers being tracked by Circana. The cycle works like this:
- If the item is selling in retailers which are being tracked by Circana, the coding process will be triggered in Circana’s system after 50 scans (as long as Circana has sufficient information/images to code with).
- If package images have been submitted to InfoSource Data Solutions, the item will then be included on Circana’s next monthly New Item Report. The release of each New Item Report is when Circana’s initial coding of the product gets double checked for accuracy by both Circana and InfoSource.
- After the initial coding is approved, the item is added to Circana’s database 2-3 weeks later and will then be included in the subsequent data delivery which InfoSource Data Solutions receives from Circana.
- Once UPCs are added to Circana's database, they’re expected to bring their past 17 weeks of sales data with them. If the UPC had already been selling for longer than 17 weeks, any historical data beyond 17 weeks will not appear until Circana's next biannual full historical database restatement, which occurs once in the Spring and once in the Fall.
