In Circana Wine & Spirit Data, How is the Price Segment Attribute Determined, and What's the Relationship Between Price Segment and Brand Value Coding?

Price Segment is assigned at the brand level. Items with the same brand value have the same Price Segment value. Thus, items within same brand family only have have different Brand values if they're coded with different Price Segment values.

In Circana data, multiple items under a single brand value umbrella will all be assigned the same Price Segment value. Circana assigns Price Segment at the brand level, not the SKU level.

For the most part, Wine & Spirit category items will have matching Brand Family and Brand values. But, occasionally we see an item, or several items, which have a different Brand value from other items within the same Brand Family. Circana says this occurs when an item falls into a different price segment from the majority of the brand family's items. So, if the majority of a brand family's items are 750ml bottles, but one of them is a 375ml bottle, the 375ml bottle will probably have a different price segment value and be assigned a different brand value from the others. Of course, Circana coding doesn't catch everything, so if you notice that something should be assigned to a higher (or lower) price segment than it has been, please send front and back label images for that item to support@InfoSource.ai with an explanation of the miscoding you've noticed. Our support will bring those images to Circana and request an investigation. Just remember, a change in price segment for an item will bring with it a unique brand value.

One final note about Price Segment value coding: regardless of whether a brand/item is selling at a higher price in one geography, and a lower price in another, each brand/item will be assigned the same price segment value across all geographies they're selling in.
