How Can I Ensure That Circana Codes My Rotating UPC as a "SERIES" or "SEASONAL"?

Circana often codes a rotating UPC with the name of the first flavor in the rotation unless we provide images for two rotating flavors. For an item to be coded as "Series" and not "Seasonal", additional requirements must be met.

  • For any UPC which represents a rotating SERIES or SEASONAL, you'll need to provide package imagery for two of the flavors which will be included in the rotation, to prove that multiple flavors will be sharing the same UPC. If you only have imagery available for the first flavor in the rotation, please pair it with a sell sheet for the rotation and provide imagery for the next flavor as soon as it becomes available. For information about where and how to submit images, see this guide.
  • The only way to guarantee that a series gets coded with a certain name (and isn’t coded generically as SEASONAL), is if the name of the series is displayed on the packaging. Circana has been largely unwavering on this, so while we can request a name like “Barrel Strong Aged Series”, Circana will most likely code it as SEASONAL if the words “Barrel Strong Aged Series” aren't included on the packaging.
  • Depending on your preference, it may even be worth adjusting the label/package designs for upcoming flavors to display the name of the series on them. Suppliers have done this in order to achieve the desired coding in Circana, but this type of adjustment can be a big ask of graphics coordinators.
